The AI landscape experienced seismic shifts this week as OpenAI launched ChatGPT Agent with unprecedented autonomous capabilities, Swedish startup Lovable achieved unicorn status in just eight months with its revolutionary "vibe coding" platform, and former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati's Thinking Machine Labs secured a record-breaking $2 billion seed round at a $12 billion valuation, marking the largest seed funding in Silicon Valley history and signaling explosive investor confidence in the next generation of AI laboratories.

OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Agent: AI That Actually Does the Work
OpenAI revolutionized AI assistance with the launch of ChatGPT Agent, a unified agentic system that can autonomously control computers, browse the web, and complete complex tasks from start to finish. The new agent combines browser control, terminal access, and API integration, enabling users to request actions like "analyze competitors and create a slide deck" or "plan and buy ingredients for Japanese breakfast." On internal benchmarks measuring complex knowledge-work tasks, ChatGPT Agent's output matches or exceeds human performance in roughly half the cases, while significantly outperforming previous AI models. The agent is available to Pro, Plus, and Team users, with Pro users receiving 400 messages monthly and others getting 40 messages with credit-based options for additional usage.
"ChatGPT can now do work for you using its own computer, handling complex tasks from start to finish".
AI Investment Landscape
Lovable Becomes Europe's Latest Unicorn with Lightning-Fast $200M Series A
Swedish AI startup Lovable achieved unicorn status with a $200 million Series A round led by Accel, reaching a $1.8 billion valuation just eight months after launch. The "vibe coding" platform, which helps users create websites and apps through natural language, has amassed over 2.3 million active users and 180,000 paying subscribers, generating $75 million in annual recurring revenue within seven months. Founded by CEO Anton Osika, Lovable has managed this extraordinary growth with only 45 full-time employees, attracting high-profile angel investors including Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski and Slack co-founder Stewart Butterfield. The platform has facilitated creation of over 10 million projects and positions itself as a tool for both non-technical prototyping and production-grade application development.

"Every day, brilliant founders and operators with game-changing ideas hit the same wall: they don't have a developer to realize their vision quickly and easily".
Thinking Machine Labs Sets Silicon Valley Record with $2 Billion Seed Round
Mira Murati's Thinking Machine Labs officially closed a historic $2 billion seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz, achieving a $12 billion valuation and marking the largest seed funding in Silicon Valley history. The AI startup, founded by former OpenAI CTO Murati alongside ex-OpenAI researchers John Schulman, Barrett Zoph, and Luke Metz, attracted participation from tech giants including Nvidia, ServiceNow, Cisco, AMD, and Jane Street. Despite being less than a year old and having yet to reveal its products, the company has signaled plans to unveil work in the coming months featuring a "significant open source offering" useful for researchers and startups building custom AI models. The massive funding round reflects unprecedented investor appetite for promising AI laboratories, with Meta reportedly having held acquisition talks before the funding closed.

Mira Murati
"Soon, we'll also share our best science to help the research community better understand frontier AI systems".

The Last Drop – Thank You for Being Here
Hello,
I’m using this section to announce that this will be the final edition of my newsletter. It has been a very good experiment, which started a few months ago as a way to test the boundaries of AI and related tools.
It doesn’t matter how you got here, through a subscription, a recommendation, or any other way. What matters is that you stayed, and I’m truly grateful for that.
I’ve decided to end this experiment, even though I’ve really enjoyed it. I need to focus on other projects—most of them still related to AI, of course. Another reason is that it has become increasingly difficult to maintain the newsletter’s costs and upkeep.
I want to thank you again for joining me on this journey. Keep exploring, testing, and staying curious. Only together can we make AI a tool that improves the lives of many.
I’ll still be publishing occasionally on my new Substack. You may have already seen my latest post, it’s about how I created this very newsletter:
Until we meet again, online, in another experiment, or in a new idea, thank you for being part of this story.
Conclusion
This week's developments showcase the AI industry's remarkable momentum across product innovation, startup success, and unprecedented capital flows. ChatGPT Agent represents a major leap toward truly autonomous AI assistants, while Lovable's meteoric rise demonstrates the massive market appetite for AI-powered development tools. Meanwhile, Thinking Machine Labs' record-breaking funding signals that investors believe we're still in the early innings of AI transformation, with former OpenAI talent commanding extraordinary valuations based on potential alone. Together, these stories illustrate an industry moving beyond foundational research toward practical applications and the next generation of AI laboratories poised to challenge established players.
